Blocks 210/29a & 210/30a

Blocks 210/29a, and 210/30a, lie on the western margin of the East Shetland Basin adjacent to the Heather, Hudson and Tern Fields.  The blocks are on a single traditional licence.  EnCore has a 16.6 per cent. equity and it is operated by Sterling Resources, which has a 39.9 per cent. interest.

A number of amplitude anomalies have been identified on 3D seismic data within the Upper Jurassic.  These are interpreted as Upper Jurassic turbidite sands being fed off the East Shetland Platform to the west and create a number of stratigraphic traps.

The 210-29a-4 well was drilled on the Cladhan prospect (formerly known as 'Bowstring East'), in October 2008 and was successful with the result of a light oil discovery.  The well was drilled to a total depth of 9,734 feet.  Wireline logging confirmed 25 feet of net hydrocarbon pay over a gross interval of over 110 feet.  Wireline pressure data and fluid sampling established the presence of light oil and no oil water contact was observed.

The partnership group took the decision not to carry out a well testing programme in late 2008 and the well was suspended with a view to re-entering and undertaking side-tracking, coring and testing operations at a future date, following integration of the well results into the seismic model.

An appraisal well commenced at the beginning of August 2010 using the J.W.McLean semi-submersible rig. The well was drilled as a side-track into the Upper Jurassic channel sands, approximately 3,150 feet to the south of the original 2008 discovery.

The side-track encountered excellent quality oil bearing sandstones, resulting in a gross hydorcarbon column of 159 feet with 102 feet of net hydrocarbon pay. No oil water contact was observed. MDT testing indicated good correlation of both oil type and reservoir pressure with the 2008 discovery well. The original discovery well and the side-track have together confirmed a total hydrocarbon column in excess of 273 feet.

A drill stem test will now be performed on the side-track after which the next phase of the appraisal programme will be to drill a second side track down dip of the original discovery well in order to confirm the extent of the reservoir and seek to establish the oil water contact.
