PEDL253 is located in the East Midlands between the towns of Louth and Market Rasen and on the west flank of the Humber Basin. The Humber Basin contains the Carboniferous-age Keddington oil field and Saltfleetby gas field. The licence itself contains the Biscathorpe-1 well, which was drilled in 1987 by BP to a target depth of 2,075 metres and contains good hydrocarbon shows in the Carboniferous interval.
3D seismic reprocessing work has been completed with a view to drilling a well to appraise the Biscathorpe structure in 2010 or 2011.
